GBA Meets USB
OK, I know this is a little self indulgent but, hey that’s what the Internet is all about, right? You may have seen my Gamecube mode on this very site and I’ve just finished a very minor addition to my setup. A 4-port USB hub cleverly blatantly masquerading as an orange Gameboy Advance. More pics (and controversy) after the jump!
I tried to keep it looking as much like a GBA as possible and all the face and shoulder buttons remain intact although the A and B buttons and shoulder buttons don’t work. A short wire out of the headphone area will go to the Gamecube which currently has 2 very difficult to reach USB ports at the back. A silver piece of plasit I had lying around sits in the screen area. Might change this for something prettier in the future.
You may notice a game in the slot. I decided that I wanted to cover up the hole with something and a game seemed the obvious solution. I thought long and hard over which game I would condemn to be forever glued inside this plastic tomb. Not really……..Minish Cap was the first game that popped into my head as one I really wouldn’t miss. Which game from your collection would you have picked?
I had to remove a lot of plastic to get this to fit. You can see there are a few scars on it from where my Dremel slipped. I also changed my mind as to how the final mod would look a few times so there is a lot of room for improvement. Overall though, I’m very happy with how it turned out and now I won’t have to struggle to reach my USB ports.
