WiiDS Generated Content

Good news, everyone! I’m going to be starting a new regular user generated content feature, starring levels and creations from you: the WiiDS Podcast community! This is currently a test, to see how it goes, if it is popular, it will be a permanent feature, starting properly in September, with some prizes for the most popular ones. If it is very popular during this test run, while we iron out the creases, there may even be some prizes here!

So how do you send in the levels? Well, it’s very simple. We currently support levels from Boom Blox Bash Party, Flipnote Studio and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. For Boom Blox, email in your unique level ID to content@thewiids.co.uk. For Flipnote Studio, send in the URL of your uploaded Flipnote from the Hatena website to content@thewiids.co.uk. We are in the process of getting our own WiiDS Podcast channel to make this process smoother, but that will take at least 30 days to materialise. For Smash Bros., you will need to copy your level onto an SD card and email it to that same address, whilst not changing the file name. Don’t forget to include your forum name and a short explanation of your level. For more detailed instructions on how to send in your levels, click here. For other games, such as Wii Music or Blast Works please get in touch with us more more information for these cases.

As I have said, prizes may become regularly available if this feature becomes popular enough. Hosts and staff may enter and get their levels featured, but will not be eligible for the prizes. If you have any suggestions on how this feature could be improved, or if you want to request that we feature other games, do not hesitate to email content@thewiids.co.uk . Good luck, and I look forward to receiving your levels!

In the mean time, enjoy this very cool Flipnote by our very own Jack:

Wiiding #3: PES 2008 (Wii)

As announced on Episode 95, we’re running the third of our Wiiding competition – in which we wiid out the best titles from our own collections and pass them on to those in need (that’s right – you!).

The prize this time round is Mani’s cherished copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for Wii. Since it’s a Wii game, we regret to tell you that this contest is only open to residents in the UK & Ireland. There are three ways of entering, which are as follows:

1. Send us an email to wiidspodcast@gmail.com explaining in no more than 50 words why you deserve this game.
2. Send us an MP3 with your own football chant. This can be games-related, or specific to WiiDS – you’ve got complete freedom.
3. Rewrite the lyrics to the iconic Three Lions song (lyrics on the forums). Again, it can be games, it can be WiiDS – just send us something that’ll make us laugh.

We’ll be announcing the winner on Episode 99, so by my reckoning that means you have until Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 to enter – though I’ve no doubt Jack will correct me if that date is wrong… ;)

Best of luck, everyone

[Wiiding] Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

As we announced just before Christmas, throughout 2009 we will be giving away a range of free games. These ‘Wiiding’ competitions will allow us to weed/wiid out titles from our own collections that we no longer have a use for but feel you lot need to play. The second game up for grabs is Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for the DS.

For those who don’t know, this Capcom-developed title is a courtroom adventure game following rookie lawyer Phoenix Wright over five cases. Each case sees you investigating crime scenes, collecting evidence and cross-witnessing witnesses in the court room to expose the truth. Each case brings a new mystery and a new set of colourful characters, and deeper, darker mysteries for you to explore. The series has gained critical acclaim from both the industry and players, spawning an entire universe involving manga, concerts and even a musical! It is a definite must for any gamers collection.

To win this fantastic game, all you have to do is one or more of the following:

Send us an email (wiidspodcast@gmail.com) explaining in no more than 50 words why you deserve to win this game

Send us a 30-second sound file with your best “Objection!” If you have a reason for objecting then all the better.

Solve The Case Of The Missing Cheese Cob’s.

You have until 7pm GMT, Thursday March 26th, 2009. Best of luck!

The Case Of The Missing Cheese Cobs:

The Cheese Cobs are no doubt some of the most treasured possessions here at the WiiDS office. However, last week when we went down to check them horror stuck the faces of all of the team as we realised the cobs are missing!

The only people with keys to the office is the current members of the team so one of us must have been the culprit.

We hired a detective to track down the culprit, but on the budget we have we didn’t get the sharpest tool on the block and he lost all of the evidence collected. Now we are turning the case over to yo! Be sure to read the detectives statement below to work out where each piece of evidence is (be sure to search around the blog for the locations and events mentioned) and then compare the clues to the suspect profiles to work out who the culprit is. Once you work out who did it, email us the name for a chance to win the reward.

Detectives Statement

“I had my suspicions as to who the culprit was and had gathered evidence to support my case, so finally contacted my suspect and arrange a meeting and confront them.

The meeting point was on the other side of town and as I walked through the shopping district I noticed a handful of posters plastering the shop windows announcing Nintendo’s latest handheld.

As I was early for time I stopped for a coffee where I watched a confused group of tourists wondering why the forums weren’t where they used to be (clearly they didn’t see the announcement about the move). On the other side of the street there was a film crew filming people shouting “Yellah” into a DS. Seemed odd to me but I shrugged it off and set off to my final destination.

I remember noticing a run down dojo as I walked down to the street to the concert hall where I was to confront the suspect but by the time I got there, the show had already started and I had my witness had already left. I guess stopping for that coffee wasn’t a good idea after all.

It was only when I got back to the office that I noticed that someone had slashed my briefcase and all the evidence I had collected had been lost.”

Caption Contest #3

It’s that time of the week… Caption Contest Time!

We will post up a new image on the forums and blogs every week or three and it’s up to you to come up with a caption.

We will read the best ones out on the show and if it’s particularly good then you might be there to read it out yourself!

As well as thinking of captions, we also want your pictures. All pictures need to be Nintendo/WiiDS related in some sort of way and can be emailed to us at wiidspodcast@gmail.com

Submissions are open to all and multiple entries are allowed (encouraged if they are any good ;) )

Hit the jump to see last weeks winners!

[Wiiding] Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros’ Treasure

As we announced just before Christmas, throughout 2009 we will be giving away a range of free games. These ‘Wiiding’ competitions (nice one, Mani) will allow us to weed/wiid out titles from our own collections that we no longer have a use for but feel you lot need to play. First on the list is my copy of Zack & Wiki: Quest For Barbaros’ Treasure.

For those who don’t know, this Capcom-developed title is a point-and-click puzzle adventure, where each level is an intricate and often ingenius puzzle for you to solve, challenging players to interact with objects and the environment to unlock the treasure chest at the end. As if the gameplay wasn’t good enough on its own, the controls are incredible – this is perhaps the only third-party game that truly showcases what the Wii can do without the upcoming newfangled ‘MotionPlus’ add-on. Throw in some irresistable pirate charm and you have a classic in the making.

To win this fantastic game, recommended by the whole WiiDS team, all you have to do is one or more of the following:

  • Send us an email (wiidspodcast@gmail.com) explaining in no more than 50 words why you deserve to win this game
  • Send us a 30-second sound file with your best pirate impression (we’ve already had a strong contender for this one!)
  • Complete the WiiDS Blog Piratey Treasure Hunt

You have until 7pm GMT, Thursday February 12th, 2009. Best of luck!

The WiiDS Blog Piratey Treasure Hunt

Throughout the blog, I have hidden cunning clues within previous posts. Each clue will lead you to the next post, where you must find the next clue. Solve the clue, then simply type into the search bar to find the next post. Simple, no?

At the end of the tenth post, you will find a password. Simply email the password in, or PM it to me on the forums, and you’ll have earned a well-deserved place in the prize draw.

First clue: Which game was James stupid enough to buy,
Only to find it butchered the world’s greatest spy?
