Weekly Poll: Battle Of The Dimensions

Mama Mia! Is is that time of the week already?

Last week we asked you to vote for your favourite Mario spin-off series & never before has top spot changed throughout the week, but in the end there could only be one winner. With 32% of the vote, the king of spin-offs goes to the Paper Mario series! The charming paper world, live battles & humourus story captivated you more than any other Mario series taking a well deserved top spot. Mario’s handheld RPG series, Mario & Luigi, also scored well taking 12% of the vote. Despite being top of the charts for most the the week, Mario Kart eventually finished the race in second place with an admirable 24% of the vote. Third place goes to Mario’s larger, greedier & far more windy relative Wario, with the Wario Land series taking 12% of the vote. Speaking of adversaries, Mario Vs Donkey Kong trailed just behind with 8% of the vote, leaving sports titles Mario Tennis & Mario Strikers last to rank with just 4%.

This week we bring you he last of our current set of Mario polls. We have found that Galaxy captivated your hearts, & Paper Mario charmed you all, but now we are asking you to settle the battle between the classic and the new as we ask do you enjoy 2D or 3D Mario games the most? As always we will be back next week with the results and more poll fun!

See You Next Week :)

Weekly Poll: One Job Is Not Enough

Last week, with the release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, we asked you what was your favourite main Mario game and one game clearly stood ahead of the rest and proved itself as being truly out of this world. Taking a massive 40% of the votes was Mario’s latest (and now officially greatest) adventure to the stars, Super Mario Galaxy. Following in 2nd place was Mario’s theatrical adventure Super Mario Bros. 3 with 14% of the vote. The other likely suspects, Super Mario World & Super Mario 64, followed close behind with 11% of the vote. Both Super Mario World 2: Yoshis Island & Super Mario Bros 2 managed to take 6% of the votes, with Super Mario Sunshine & The Lost Levels both taking 3%. Over on the handhelds, Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins & New Super Mario Bros. both managed to muster 3% each.

Of course, Mario isn’t just a “Princess saving plumber specialising in rescues from castles owned by giant fire breathing turtle monsters”. Over the years Mario has been a Racer, Sporting Legend, Doctor, Party Planner & even a Piece Of Paper. Therefore, this week we are asking you what is your favourite Mario spin-off series? The poll includes any series that isn’t considered part of the ‘main Mario platforming series’ and has two or more games in the series.

As always we look forward to seeing the results and will be back next week with the last of our current Mario polls. Why not leave us a comment about what makes each series your favourite, or which particular games in the series you love?

Weekly Poll: Plumbers Perfection

After what has definitely not been a week longer than the usual time between polls we are here to once again dive into our listeners collective consciousness and answer another burning question. Before that though we need to wrap up last weeks voting antics. We asked you which consoles you would like to see added to Virtual Console in the future.

Unsurprisingly Nintendo’s consoles came out on top with Gameboy Advance taking 27% of the vote, Gameboy/Gameboy Color taking 17% and the headache inducing Virtual Boy also taking 17%. On the console front, the Sega Saturn took top spot with (once again) 17% of the votes, followed by the Atari 2600 and Amiga taking 10% each. With just 3.5% of the vote, the console that started it all, the Magnavox Odyssey, was the final console to receive votes.

Moving onto this week, with Mario & Co. making their way back to consoles with New Super Mario Bros, we want to know what is the greatest Mario game of all time? We are only looking at the ‘main series’ of games this week, with next week giving you an opportunity to vote for your favourite spin-off series.

Make your votes count and why not leave us a comment and let us know what made that special game so special for you?

See you next week for more voting action!

Weekly Poll: Retro Revivals

Last week we asked you where you first fell in love with Nintendo and we had a very wide range of results. Taking the top spots were the Nintendo Entertainment System and Gameboy, each with 19% of the votes. These were closely followed by the SNES, N64 & Gameboy Color with 14% each, and the GBA, Wii, DS & Game & Watch each taking 5% of the vote. Unsurprisingly there was no love for the Virtual Boy or Pokemon Mini (0%), but more surprisingly, the Gamecube also came out with no votes.

This week we are looking at Nintendo’s portal to retro goodness, the Virtual Console. With nine consoles to choose from and over 300 games it offers everyone a chance to relive their retro memories. However, not all of our retro favourites are currently on consoles provided, so we want to know which consoles would you like to see added to the Virtual Console library? Please note that Playstation hasn’t been included due to the fact that it would never happen with the companies rivaling each other. Likewise any consoles above 64-bit have not been included due to their feasibility. However, if you have any consoles I have missed on your mind, please use the “other” section to let us know. Also why not leave us a comment about which games you would like to see from the console you picked? We will include the best ones in next weeks poll!

Weekly Poll – Nintendo Beginnings

It’s time for that Monday poll based action you know and love!

Last week we asked you about how much information you like to know about your games before you pick them up. While nobody went on their instinct, or drowned themselves in a sea of knowledge, the results in between were pretty mixed. The most popular answer was “I will dabble in and out of coverage from my favourite sites.” with 38% of the vote with my personal choice “Just enough to sell me the game.” & “I will actively seek out information on the game to keep up to date.” close behind with 23% each. So basically we have learned that people like to know what they are buying, but not everything about it.

This week we want to bring back the nostalgia and remind you of the first time you plunged a cartridge into your new console (or saw the first and last time your new CD wouldn’t be covered in scratches) as you began your journey into the world of Nintendo. Was it the joys of the NES and Super Mario Bros, the addictiveness of Tetris on the Gameboy, the first time entering a 3D world with the N64 or perhaps even the revolutionary controls of the Wii & DS?

As always we will be back next week to share the results with you and thank you for voting!

Weekly Poll: Information Overload

It’s Weekly Poll Monday, and as always before we get into the new questions, we still have last weeks Yuletide Yearnings to wrap up. Following the previous weeks DS poll, we asked you which Wii games you were looking forward to this season, and unsurprisingly the worlds most famous plumber took the top spot with New Super Mario Bros and 27% of the vote. Second place saw a retro revival for platforming puzzler classic A Boy and His Blob with 15% of the vote, with Japanese sidescrolling slasher Muramasa: The Deamon Blade taking third place with 10% of the vote. Many of the other games, such as Rabbids Go Home, Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles & Wii Fit Plus were not far behind, but once again one game failed to attract a single vote. This week the least loved game award went to EA’s Spore Hero with 0% of the votes.

Once again we also asked for games you were interested in that we didn’t include in the poll. Games mentioned included EA’s MySims Agents and the upcoming abbreviation classic FFCCTCB (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers). We also had The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks submitted by one confused reader as well as one person who wasn’t interested in this years lineup, proving that you can’t please everyone.

Now we know what you want, we want to know how much you like to know. With any release the internet provides a wealth of news, previews, reviews, screenshots, videos and just about any other information you could ever want to know before making your purchase, but how much of this information do you read? Do you like to know anything and everything about your anticipated titles, or do you prefer to keep the information at a minimum so not to spoil yourself?

Weekly Poll – Yuletide Yearnings Wii

It’s Monday and that means it’s time to start a new poll. Last week, in preparation for our annual ‘Yuletide Yearnings’ episode, we asked which recent/upcoming DS titles you were looking forward to. The most popular answers included Scribblenauts (26%) and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (24%) with Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story taking third place (17%). Down at the other end of the tables were both Nintendo Presents: Style Boutique and Need for Speed Nitro with no votes at all. We also let you vote for games not included on the poll, which included games such as Carcassone, a videogame remake of a classic tile game of the same name as well as Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth arriving in February which sees you taking on the role of prossecutor Miles Edgeworth of Phoenix Wright fame.

Now we know what pocket presents you are looking forward to it’s time to move onto that white box of wonders, the Wii. Which recently released/upcoming Wii titles are you looking forward to working your way through over the next few months? Just like last week you can vote for as many games as you wish, or even include your own suggestions. We have included what we think will be the big releases of the winter, but you can find the full releases schedule by clicking here.

We will be discussing which games we are looking forward to in Episode 117 as well as discussing your results. We look forward to seeing your answers and will be back next week with more polling goodness!

Weekly Poll – Yuletide Yearnings DS

It’s time to start another poll, but first we need to settle the results of last weeks. We asked you which ‘type’ was your favourite starter in Pokemonand the results were close, with just one vote in it. In join first we have those groovy grass types along with water making a splash each with 35% of the vote. Just one vote behind, with 31%, fire was extinguished.

As for this week, it’s time to start huddling up by the fire, sing cheesy carols and wonder just which James Bond film will be shown this christmas as we take a look at our Yuletide Yearnings! This week we are focusing on Nintendo’s handheld while next week will take a look at that white wonder under your telly.

We’ve included all the big games we can think of and you can vote on as many as you like. However, if we’ve missed something you think deserves a place then please let us know! You can find a list of upcoming games here.

Weekly Poll – Select Your Starter

The weekly poll has returned after it’s brief hiatus, and is now here on the blog for all to vote and enjoy.

Every week we will be bringing you a random burning question on the minds of all gamers for you to answer and join in with.

With Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver recently released in Japan pokefever has been spreading around the internet once more, with trainers old and new beginning their adventure. At the beginning of any adventure though comes a simple choice which can divide nations and rivals with that of the Pirates Vs Ninjas debate (I’m a pirate by the way ;) ) Fire, Grass or Water?

Which starter Pokemon would you go for, or did go for in the older games, to accompany you in your adventure? Are you driven by your flaming passion, cool down with water, or keep yourself firmly rooted into the ground with your grass starter? Vote and let us know your reasons either in the comments below, on the forums, send us a tweet or even post on our facebook wall.

As for myself? Well there is something very tranquil about grass Pokemon, while hiding natures fury underneath ready to destroy any who dare challenge.
