This weeks Virtual Console releases brings Will Wright’s SimEarth: The Living Planet to the console. As expected from any Sim game you will need plenty of management skills to keep everything in order as you try and sustain an entire planet. Unfortunately if your not used to the almost overwhelming options of the Sim titles (especially the older ones) and the need to keep everything in perfect balance, this one might be too overwhelming. However, if your a serial Sim and know what your getting into then you are in for a rich, fun experience.
Also on Virtual Console comes the arcade rendition of SEGA’s Altered Beast. This classic sidescrolling beat-em-up seems you taking the role of a man-wolf-dragon-tiger-bear thing taking down various baddies as you struggle to save Athena. The game has a cult status and will provide fun for those looking for a nostalgic experience, but we warned, it hasn’t preserved as well as a jar of pickles. Wise Fwom Your Gwave!
Over on WiiWare, Water Warfare is the latest brainchild from the makers of Onslaught, but when it comes to sugary coating, both are very different flavours. Instead of blasting space marines and alien bugs, Water Warfare puts you in a bright world stocked with super soakers. The game offers a wide variety of maps, modes, missions, weapons and character customisation. If single player isn’t enough for you though then why not head online for an eight player deathmatch… or should that be splashmatch? As well as being bigger and better than it’s older brother, it’s also 200 points cheaper at a nice 800 point price tag. If you can get past the sweet sugary coating then you are in for a treat!
Puzzle Bobble (sometimes known as Bust A Move) is one of the few puzzle games that can truly be called a gaming institution, often imitated but never beaten. Puzzle Bobble Plus joins it’s cousin Bubble Bobble Plus in offering the retro goodness we all grew up with with some modern flares thrown in. Expect plenty of content to work through, an fun two player mode to challenge your friend and if you manage to get through to the end then downloadable content packs offer you the chance to buy more level sets.
Over On DSiWare, Sudoku 50! For Beginners is exactly what it says on the tin. This package offers 50 Sudoku puzzles ideal for those getting into the game. Much like Sudoku 150! For Challengers released a few weeks ago, the game has a nice clean interface, and supports handwriting recognition as well as touch input. For those looking for more of a challenge, why not try Sudoku 150! or wait for A Little Bit Of… Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training: Sudoku Edition which will also contain a Brain Age check mode.
