In this Special Edition of WiiDS, we speak exclusively to Joost van Dongen, lead programmer and CEO of development studio Ronimo Games, creators of the original De Blob and the upcoming Swords And Soldiers.
We discuss the coolest company name ever, the studio’s new take on the RTS genre, the key points of Swords And Soldiers, the challenges of developing for WiiWare, the possibilities of DSiWare, and a certain game about paint. The team would like to thank Joost for his time and wish Ronimo the best of luck with their endeavours. Enjoy!

The latest and greatest episode of WiiDS takes on something of a new structure, and we want you to let us know what you think. Have we changed too much? Have we not changed enough? Email your thoughts (wiidspodcast@gmail.com), or comment here, or post on the forums.
Also, the new structure makes it easier to cut the episode down considerably, so scoll down for the brand new Minicast – only 45 minutes long! If you listen to this, email/comment/post, because if there are enough people listening to it, we’ll fork out for an iTunes feed just for you.

Reuters Canada recently revealed the highly-anticipated-by-the-team sequel to last years Boom Blox. The new title, names Boom Blox Bash Party features a much more in depth multiplayer mode after the success of the originals.
“‘Boom Blox Bash Party’ is a wild social gaming experience. We know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original ‘Boom Blox’ together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with ‘Boom Blox Bash Party.’” – Stephen Spielberg
As well as extensive multiplayer options, the new title features more than 400 new levels and new environments including underwater and in space. However, perhaps the best new feature announced is the games online level sharing. Players will be able to upload their own levels and download new levels from both EA and other users around the world. The game is due out in the Americas Spring ‘09.
Also new control methods have been revealed such as a slingshot mode, where you have to pull back on the Wii Remote to send your balls flying. Also revealed was that the shooting segments, universally agreed as one of the weakest points in the game by the team, will be taking the backseat in this version. Another interesting reveal was that some of the blocks will be breaking away from the square standard with the introduction of cylinders and ramps. While this takes away from the squareish charm of the original, hopefully the creativity that comes with them will make up for it.
Our two complaints about the game was that the multiplayer needed more depth and level sharing, so with these two areas well and truly fixed it’s already shaping up to be an instant classic.
